Neva M. (Gamble) Mecham of Bountiful, Utah, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 4, 2012, at age 86. Neva was born on February 22, 1926, in Preston, Idaho to John William and Mary Wells Gamble. She grew up in Preston, Idaho, and graduated from Preston High School. In 1944 she came to Salt Lake City to live with her sister, Corma Chapman, and worked for the LDS Church. In I946 she enrolled at Brigham Young University, where she met her sweetheart, Merlin J. Mecham. They were married in the Logan Temple on September 22, 1947. She lived in Provo, Logan, and Columbus, Ohio, while her husband finished school. She was blessed with two children, Robert Robbie Mecham and Annette Mecham Mead. In 1962 she settled in Bountiful, Utah. She held many administrative assistant jobs throughout her life, the most memorable of which was when she worked for Lowell Bennion and Neal Maxwell in the Dean of Students office at the University of Utah. After she retired she did volunteer work at the Church Office building in Salt Lake City. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society. She had many talents; sewing, knitting, crocheting, and painting ceramics. Her pride and joy were her two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Merlin J. Mecham, Bountiful, Utah, and her daughter Annette Mecham Mead (Rick), North Salt Lake, Utah, two grandchildren Natalie Haacke Humphries (Jeramie), Neal Sebastian Haacke, and three great grandchildren, Shaylie, Kamie, and Alex Humphries. She was preceded in death by her son Robert Robbie Mecham, her parents, two sisters and one brother. Those who knew her will remember her kindness and her sweet spirit. Services will be held on November 9, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Bountiful 45th Ward Chapel, 115 East Wicker Lane, Bountiful, Utah, with visitation at 9:45 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Last respects may be paid at a viewing in her honor on November 8, 2012, 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Russion Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Estates, 1640 Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah. The family would like to thank Utah Hospice Services for their loving care.
