Nina Taylor

January 9, 1924 — December 20, 2024

Bountiful, UT

Nina Taylor died peacefully in the company of family and friends on the evening of December 20, 2024. At nearly 101, she lived a full and vibrant life. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She will be reunited with her husband Woodrow and daughter Pam who went before her. She brightened the lives of all she met.

Nina was born in Grace, Idaho on a snowy January 9, 1924, to her parents Francis and Della. She was brought into the world by her father when the local doctor refused to brave the storm. Raised on a farm with two brothers, Arla and Norval, she joined the family working the land and running the farm at eight years old after her brother Arla died young. She moved to Salt Lake City during World War II and joined the workforce as part of the war effort. There she met and married Woodrow Taylor in April 1944. They settled in Bountiful, Utah in a house on Main Street and had two daughters, Linda and Pamela. Both daughters went on to careers and marriages. Her daughter Linda worked as an elementary school teacher and married Bob Ballesteros. Her daughter Pam worked as a journalist with the AP and the Deseret News and married Bob Wade. Pam and Bob had one daughter, Katie.

At the age of 30, Nina heard about a job opportunity at South Davis Medical Center. She went back to work in hopes of helping to fund a family room remodel. She didn’t leave the workforce again until she was 90 years old. After being hired the same day as her initial interview by Drs. Hicken and MacKay, she went on to work as a nurse at the South Davis Medical Center for 35 years. Her first attempt at retirement lasted a short 10 months. Nina was lured back to the workforce by Nelda Delost to work at the Medical Mart store that Nelda owned. Nelda herself was entering retirement and sold the Medical Mart. In September 2001, shortly after the sale, the owners of the Medicine Shoppe in Bountiful, UT, Kort and Sherri Delost asked her to join the team there. She expected to work for a short time or until her health began to fail. She stayed for 13 years. She retired at the age of 90. In her final years, she had a vibrant social life at Legacy House of Bountiful until her death at the age of 100.

Nina was a caring and loving matriarch to her small but close-knit family. She loved audio books (especially presidential biographies), her daily visits with her daughter Linda and granddaughter Katie and the Utah Jazz. She was a beacon of light and kindness to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Thank you to staff and caregivers of Legacy in Bountiful and Hospice for the care and consideration they provided.
