Today in Heaven, an angel laced up her sneakers and went on a run. Our best friend, Mom, and Grandmother “MeBe” returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and loved ones peacefully on January 03, 2021. Norene Wilson Barton was born in Logan, Utah on January 14, 1942, to Cleo Thornton and James Grant Davis Wilson. She spent her formative years with her Grandmother Sarah, whom she loved dearly, in Cache Valley, Utah. In 1960, she graduated from Bountiful High School and married her sweetheart, J Golden Barton on Valentines Day, 1961. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple, spending 54 years together as companions in marriage, parenthood, and ministry until his passing in 2015.
We celebrate her life through the memory of her positivity, strength, and genuine compassion for those around her. Her legacy is a celebration of light, resilience, Christlike service and the love she gave and received over the full and vibrant years she graced the earth.
She held many titles and carried each of them with vigilance – a fiercely loyal mother, a wife, a grandmother, a provider, a friend, a missionary in Swaziland, South Africa, and a woman of great faith.
Rain or shine, she remained optimistic and believed that each day was a new adventure up until her final moments. She ran daily throughout her life, completing several marathons, including the Deseret News Marathon, Ogden Valley Marathon, St. George Marathon, and qualified for the Boston Marathon. Even in her last weeks, she was determined to continue her love of running each day.
She loved making homemade candy, sewing, country music, fashion, serving the Lord, and spending time with her family – her greatest joy.
She is preceded in death by her husband J Golden Barton and her oldest daughter Teresa Norene Barton Wendel.
She is survived by 5 of her 6 children: Jason Golden (Kathryn) Barton, Nannette Sarah (Robert) Simmons, Jay Golden Barton, Candice Florence (Jeffery) Reynolds, Jared Golden (Jenny) Barton, and 25 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
