Norma Bauer Jefferies

June 10, 1927 — March 19, 2015

Norma Bauer was born on June 10th 1927 to John Carlos Bauer and Aurelia Worthen Bauer, the 1st of nine children, in Cedar City, Utah.  In a written account by Aurelia: “She was earlier than expected and bruised from the birth, was small, and had very little hair, eyebrows or eyelashes, and her eyes stood out.  Carlos got the news that his first baby girl had been born and came down from the mountain from herding his sheep.   His first reaction was to say she looked like a little featherless bird and he could put her in his back pocket.”
Norma attended Cedar City schools.  She was 15 years old and a sophomore in High School when her Father was killed in a truck and train accident in March of 1943.  Her 4 year old brother Raymond was in the truck, too and Carlos protected Raymond’s body with his own.  Life changed for Norma, her pregnant Mother and her younger siblings.  Aurelia was an amazing example to Norma, she always loved spending time with her Mom, her sisters and brothers.  On September 23rd 1944 they were sealed as an Eternal Family in the St. George LDS Temple. They made happy memories with Aurelia’s extended family members in Parowan and Panguitch.  Family meant everything to all of them!
Norma inherited the love of dancing from both her parents.  She met a very handsome returned Serviceman named Don Jefferies at an open-air dance in Cedar City.  She was impressed with his fancy footwork and he knew that beautiful Norma was the girl for him!  They were married for Eternity on May 25th 1946 in the St. George LDS Temple.  They had 4 children that they loved very much. They continued to dance together through the years; square dancing!  That was a lot of fun for them as well as their “Dinner” and “Pinochle” Groups.
Mom and Dad were quite a team. They both worked hard and taught us to work hard, too.  Mom was a checker in Bountiful stores and a Store Manager for Cavanaugh’s Candies in downtown SLC.  But, they made it a point to have time for extended family fun, too.  Sunday drives to Grantsville to visit with Grandma & Grandpa Jefferies and road trips to Cedar City to spend time with Grandma Bauer and family are the foundation of many happy memories and solid relationships with aunt & uncles and cousins still today.
Dad and Mom built their own cabin over many years with lots of love, sweat and tears.  Dad and Mom loved spending time together there and it served as the favorite gathering place for our whole family…our children’s most favorite memories were made there! Mom could relax, laugh and enjoy playing table games with all of us at the cabin.  It was her joy to have us together there, at home, in Breckenridge, CO, East Canyon or at Bauer Family Reunions or wherever!  Mom seemed to glow, smile and laugh more during these times.  Family meant everything to her!
Mom served faithfully in LDS Church callings from dedicated Visiting Teacher to member of the Relief Society Presidency and finally a Bountiful Temple Worker. She supported Dad in all of his callings, too.  She adored Dad, respected, relied on and encouraged him.   He always tried to help her, please her and love her in the ways that made her happy. They spent every day together.  They would finally sit together in their recliners watching their favorite TV shows, after working long hours in their yard tending flowers and vegetable gardens.        Mom has missed Dad so much since he peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 13th 2013.  She has needed special care in various ways with Dementia creeping in. She was moved to the Ashford Care Center in Highland in early November where she received tender care from the staff and care-givers there right to the end.  When visiting with her she would tell us she wanted to go back home and on Thursday, March 19th, Mom did just that.  She passed away peacefully with her Jeff there to meet her.  We LOVE YOU, Mom and will miss you, dearly, but we know that you and Dad are so happy together, again.
Mom is survived by her sister: Bobette (Stewart Vorkink), brothers: Gordon (Carolyn Bauer), Duane (Sharon Bauer), brother-in-law: Ken Topham, and her children: Bruce, Brad (Rondi), Sherrie Lalor (Mike Brooks), Neil (Holly), and her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren: Chris (Tara Lalor, Ethan & Ryan Whitehead) Tara (David, Isaac & Eli Names), Tyler (Jonathan & Dylan Jefferies), Ramsi (Brian, Beklan and Baby Girl Stoker), Branigan (Julie, Beau, Archer & Alice Knowlton), Jace and Tayte Jefferies and her many caring nieces and nephews, who she adored.
Preceded in death by: her parents, sisters: Colleen (Dono Webster), Marjorie (Charles Blackburn), and Opal Topham, brother; Raymond (Shirlene Bauer), and grandson: Jarrod Jefferies, and many other loved ones and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28th 2015, 11:00 am at Bountiful 2nd Ward, 650 South 200 East.  Family and Friends may pay their respects on Friday, March 27th 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Church, as well as from 9:45 am – 10:45 am prior to the Funeral at the Church.
Interment: Lake View Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, UT.
