Norma Blake Davis

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Norma Blake Davis succumbed to heart failure on June 27, 2022, at Ogden Regional Hospital. Norma was born on October 22,1938 in Vineyard, Utah to Rex & Zella Harding Blake.

Norma had an idyllic childhood. She grew up in the family home, the fifth generation of Blakes to live in the house, raised in the loving company of nearby grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. The eldest of six children, Norma, along with her sisters Susan and Carol, learned the art of homemaking from her mother, while her father and brothers, Richard, Karl and Dale, worked the family farm.

Norma attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1960. She taught Elementary School for several years until she started a family of her own. The family settled in Bountiful, where Norma raised her five children, Carolyn, Eric, Ryan, Jason and Julie, with steadfast faith and unconditional love.

Norma married Leonard Davis in 1982, later sealing their union in the Bountiful temple. In their early years of marriage they shared a love of dancing. Their many adventures included frequent road trips, camping and fishing excursions, countless visits to Yellowstone Park and trips to visit their children and grandchildren. In their later years, they shared companionship and nurtured and cared for each other through the physical and emotional challenges of aging.

As a young mother and a talented seamstress, Norma conceived and created the Quiet Book Tutor, the first of its kind. For many years she successfully marketed and sold the patterns and instructions for her Quiet Book through Deseret Book and other stores.

For nearly 40 years, Norma worked as the office manger for Dr. Chris R. Simonsen, DDS. She ran the dental office with grace and efficiency, endearing herself to her employer, co-workers and two generations of patients. Norma cherished those associations, reluctantly retiring at almost 80 years of age.

Norma worked tirelessly to create traditions and memories with her family. Her holiday decorating was magical, and her festive home was the backdrop for many memorable celebrations. Her homemade Halloween Spudnuts were legendary, as was her beautiful calligraphy and penmanship. She made sticker books for her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, and supplying them with stickers was a precious and treasured routine. Norma maintained a beautiful yard for as long as she was able, as she hosted wedding receptions and countless family gatherings. Her grandchildren will remember strawberry picking, leaf raking, 24th of July barbecues, Creamies, cousins, fireworks & glow sticks, in Grandma & Grandpa’s backyard. In her final years, Norma enjoyed observing the deer and birds that frequented her yard.

A descendent of the Mormon Pioneers, Norma was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith in God was her defining characteristic and she lived the principles of the gospel with exactness and honor. She served in many callings and capacities, sharing her testimony through service, leadership and music. Norma lived in the Bountiful Hills Ward for 43 years. It was her Zion, and those life-long associations brought her great joy.

Norma will be remembered for her exceptional ability to show love and kindness to everyone she met. She saw the best in people, and always sought to make them feel comfortable and welcome. Truly, to know her was to love her. Norma found joy and purpose in serving, and was tireless in her efforts to love and minister to family, friends and neighbors.

Norma is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rex & Zella Blake, and a great-granddaughter. Survived by her husband, Leonard J.Davis Jr; Children, Carolyn (Chase) Inagaki-Huffine, Eric (Carolyn) Barnes, Ryan Barnes, Jason (Kristi) Barnes, Julie (Nathan) Martini; Children by marriage, Karlene (Jack) Tracy, Cindy Tingey, Rick (Carrie) Davis; 18 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren; 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren by marriage; Siblings, Richard (Carol Ann) Blake, Karl (Margaret) Blake, Susan (Lyndon) Callister, Dale (Irma) Blake, Carol (Marty) Dye; Sister-in-law, Julie (Danny) Hammes; Step-mother Ruth Christensen Blake; Siblings by marriage Carol Ann (Earl) Glen, Leslie (Gary) Chasteen, Earl (Julie) Christensen, Drew (Becky) Christensen, Jim (Amy) Christensen.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9 at 11:00 am, preceded by a viewing from 9:30 – 10:45 am, Bountiful Hills Ward Building 1190 Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful.
