Norma Jane Rickards

July 7, 1927 — December 31, 2016

Norma Jane Brooks Rickards

Norma was born July 7, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Kiddle Brooks and Mary Isabella Baxter, the third of four children. She graduated from South High School. From an early age, Norma worked many jobs mostly in book keeping. She and Jack owned Jack’s Salon of Beauty and made many life-long friends from their business. She loved to dance in her earlier years. At the age of 19, she was in a terrible auto accident on Beck Street, and was severely injured, and endured life-long physical maladies including five hip and two knee replacements. But that didn’t stop her from enjoying life the best she could.

She married Jack Harrison Rickards on April 30, 1953. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in October 1979. Together, they tried their hand at bowling but it was short lived and fell in love with golf. Norma and Jack golfed Utah, Hawaii, and surrounding States. She became so skilled that one-year she placed first in a women’s league. She could watch your golf swing and tell you how to improve in an understanding way. Golfing with Norma made the day more enjoyable. She was also a great cook and loved experimenting.  Norma had a simple and strong testimony of Jesus Christ and was true to her beliefs as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Norma has two sons, Jack (Margaret) Rickards and Bradley (Karla) Rickards. She loved her sons and would often reply to “I love you” with “I love you more”. She was pleased with the accomplishments of her sons and would often be found telling others. Her motherly love extended to her two granddaughters (Alexandra E. and Amanda Jo). She showered them with love, anxiously anticipated being with and hearing from them, and wanted only success and happiness in their lives. She leaves behind her brother (Richard), children, their wives, grand children and husband of 63 years.

A combined viewing and informal service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2016 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 S. 200 E., Salt Lake City, Utah.  Online obituary available at www.russonmortuary.com
