Norman J. G. Miller

June 10, 1927 — October 30, 2017

Norman J.G. Miller, 90, our loving father and grandfather passed away on October 30, 2017 from causes incident to age.  Born June 10, 1927 to John George Miller and Norma Eva West.  He was raised in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and had all of the advantages of growing up in a loving family.  He loved his childhood, helping to pick fruit of many varieties from the large family orchard at the base of majestic Mt. Timpanogos.

His family later moved to Salt Lake City and he graduated from South High in 1945.  He served his country during World War II.  Upon returning home from the war he served an LDS mission in the Hawaiian Islands where he developed a love for the people and the Polynesian culture.  He would sing Hawaiian songs to his children when they were young and often used Hawaiian words and phrases in his speaking.

He earned his pilot’s license and attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University.  While at BYU he met his future wife and sweetheart, Nelda C. Stewart, on a blind date.  They were married in the Idaho Falls temple on December 22, 1953.  Together they traveled to many areas of the world.  They enjoyed golfing together and spending time with family and friends.  He enjoyed reading and music.

For many years he worked for Ajax Presses as a Sales Control Manager.  When the company transferred their headquarters out-of-state he chose not to move the family, changing jobs and working for the LDS Church in their Purchasing Department until his retirement.

He was a faithful member of the LDS church his entire life and served in many different callings.    He felt blessed to be a member of the Bountiful 30th ward for nearly 50 years and served as a bishop there.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nelda.  He is survived by his children: Mark N. Miller, Matthew R. Miller (Laura Lee), LeeAnn Sonntag (Keith) and seven grandchildren – Kate Jones (Colby), Sarah Hoopes (Garrett), Emily and Jacob Miller and Spencer, Samuel and Stewart Sonntag.

Family and friends may visit with the family at the Bountiful Utah East Stake Center at 650 E. 2150 S. in Bountiful from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on November 3, 2017.  Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. in the chapel.  Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.  The family wishes to thank Life Care Center of Bountiful for their care of our father for the past 22 months.  In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the LDS missionary or education funds.
