Norman Lee Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at his home in Centerville, Utah. He was born on February 10, 1921 in Park City, Utah to Hardy Dean and Letha Agnes Yates Mitchell. Norm was the third of six children, 5 boys and 1 girl. He grew up in Kamas, Utah and graduated from South Summit High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Seabee during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii and later in Japan after the War. While on leave he married Amy Norton on December 17, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Their earthly marriage lasted more than 73 years. They were blessed with five children. Norm and Amy lived in the same house, which he built, in the Poplar Grove area of Salt Lake for 68 years. He also built his beloved cabin on the Weber River in Summit County. Norm worked as a skilled building contractor for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings.
Survived by his wife Amy, and children Lee (Sue) Mitchell, Centerville UT; LuAnn (Steve) Walkenhorst, Farmington UT; Letha Jean Eoff, West Jordan UT; Ilene (Brent) Christison, Centerville UT; and Kim (Karleen) Mitchell, West Jordan UT; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Norm is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and a granddaughter Rachel Christison.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Poplar Grove Ward, 1401 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, where friends and family may visit Friday, May 5, 2017 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the church and Saturday, May 6, 2017, 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Francis Cemetery, Francis, Utah.
