Norman Van Midgley passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 28, 2018 at the age of 77. He was born March 16, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the 4th child of Eugene Thurgood Midgley and Gertrude Vandersteen Midgley. He had 4 brothers and sisters: Eugene LeRoy (Ted) Midgley (Marilyn), Duane Midgley (Ina), Lois Hutchins (Jim) and Dixie Ray Wagner (Bill).
He grew up in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City and was in the first graduating class of Highland High School.
He served a mission in the North and Northeast Brittish mission. After his mission he met his sweetheart, Helen Jane Pond. They were married August 25, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was drafted into the army and spent a year in Vietnam. Subsequently he was in the Army Reserve for 27 years.
He made his career in accounting, working 35 years for the Internal Revenue Service.
He loved the Savior and his Church. He had many callings at the ward and stake levels. He and his companion served a mission at the Heber Valley Girls Camp. They were also ordinance workers at the Bountiful Temple for 10 years.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ted and his brother-in-law Jim Hutchins. He is survived by all his children: Sonya Anderson (Lanny), Jeff (Trina), Wendy, Shara Mills (John) and Trever (Dawnell). He has 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the North Canyon 5th Ward, 2505 So. Davis Blvd, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Saturday morning 9:30-10:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
