Ocy LaRue Helm Christensen beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on May 14, 2014. She was born on August 19, 1925 in Ogden, Utah to Nina Mae Nielsen and Roy Edward Helm. She grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ogden High School in 1943. She married Glen Kimball Close (divorced), James Russell Godwin (divorced) and Monte C. Christensen the love of her life. Monte died in 2003.
Ocy is survived by 2 sons: Craig Edward Andrew and LaDawn (Hamilton) Godwin and James Russell Godwin, Jr. as well as 7 grandchildren, their spouses and 30 great grandchildren: Lori Ann (Godwin) and Robert Ferrell – 9 children: 5 daughters and 4 sons; Michael and Jennie (Hansen) Godwin – 6 children: 1 son and 5 daughters; Jillyne (Godwin) and Jeff Mugleston – 5 daughters; Jared and Shaunna (Hoskins) Godwin – 4 children- 2 sons and 2 daughters; Brandt and Tami (Ash) Godwin – 3 children: 2 sons and 1 daughter; Jennifer (Godwin) and Kurt Seddell: 1 son; Stephanie (Godwin) and Carter Mickey: 2 daughters.
She is also survived by her brother, Roy Mack Helm (Nettie) and her cherished pet, Chrissie.
Ocy loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. As a child of the depression she was a good example of being very frugal with her money but very giving with her love, time and affection.
She and her beloved husband “Chris”, loved to travel and spend time in their motor home. They spent many winters at River Lodge and their summers at East Canyon, Strawberry and Lake Powell. They also loved to snowmobile and she enjoyed playing games with her friends and grandchildren. Since her husband’s passing she spent several years as a volunteer receptionist at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and she enjoyed her patio and beautiful flowers and garden.
A special thank you to the Orchard 5th Ward members for their love and service to her over the past many years, and to Dr. Tyler Williams, his staff, and the nurses and support staff of Envision Health and Dr. Schellenberg and the staff at The Charleston for their loving care and concern.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Orchard 5th Ward, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Monday morning 9:45-10:45 at the church prior to services. Interment-Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Camp Williams.
