Obituary
Odetta Jeane Bramwell Farr
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Odetta Jeane Bramwell Farr, completed her sojourn on Earth and returned home to her Heavenly Parents on June 24, 2022.
Our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother’s legacy of impenetrable faith, service, charity, and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ influenced the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was born on May 23, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ernest and Odetta Mabel Hales Bramwell.
Our mother was always grateful for her pioneer heritage. In particular, her great grandmother, Sarah Loader Holman. Sarah was a member of the Martin Handcart Company and mom tried to instill in her children that same faith, dedication, and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ that carried the handcart pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley.
Mom graduated from South High School and attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. As a young woman, she spent some of her summers in Garland, Utah with a much-loved uncle and aunt. She helped work on a family farm and in a family restaurant. One of her favorite memories was learning how to drive from her uncle Tobe. Another special memory was the summer she was chosen as the Rodeo Queen and rode a beautiful palomino.
Mom loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She knew it to be true. At age 22, she served a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in The Southwest Indian Mission.
Shortly after returning from her mission, she met a handsome young man, Lionel Miller Farr. Six weeks later they were engaged. They were married April 23, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. Our father loved and cherished his “Queen”. They raised nine children and tried to instill in each one of us the value of hard work, the importance of daily prayer and scripture study, a knowledge and testimony of the Book of Mormon and a foundation of the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mom served faithfully in whatever calling was asked of her. She served as a Stake Primary Inservice Leader, Ward Primary Chorister, Stake Relief Society Mother Education Leader, Stake Relief Society Spiritual Living Leader, Stake Primary Counselor, Stake Young Women’s President, and Stake Relief Society President.
After our father passed away, mom had the privilege of serving as a worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 14 years. She was given many different responsibilities. One that she cherished was being an Assistant to the Matron. Mom loved every moment and found much joy in her time spent in the temple.
Her greatest happiness along with many challenges came from being a mother. She often said that, “All she wanted to be was a mother” and she was so grateful and felt so blessed that she was given that opportunity.
Mom continued to be an example of service, love, faith, and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ up until the very end of her life. She wondered every day if there was someone she could serve or help in some way. Throughout her challenges, she wanted to know what it was her Heavenly Father needed her to learn.
We love you Mom! Thank you for nourishing our family with faith, love, service, and pure doctrine. Thank you for your example of being a righteous daughter of our Heavenly Parents and for enduring to the end.
She is survived by her nine children; Colleen Soderberg, Marilyn (Stephen) Christensen, Lionel (Tamee) Farr, Stephen (Carrie) Farr, Douglas (Kim) Farr, Ernest (Marilyn) Farr, Michael Farr, Caroline (Gregory) Burton, and Jeffery Farr; 33 grandchildren (28 spouses who mom treated and loved as her own); 82 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Bramwell and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Lionel, son Nathan, parents, brother Ernest Craig Bramwell and sister-in-law Marcy Bramwell, Stanley Kent (Dorothy) Bramwell, and great grandsons Jameson Peter Christensen and Henry James Bodily.
She, along with our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, will continue to do what they love best, testifying of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and caring for and watching over those they love best, their family. Siempre….
