Opal DeVore Wheeler died peacefully at Beehive Homes of Draper on May 2, 2018. She had just turned 94 years old. She was born April 19, 1924 in Wichita Kansas to Chester Clay DeVore & Stella Gregory DeVore.
She met the love of her life Wayne S Wheeler during World War II at a USO Canteen in Wichita Kansas. They were married Sept. 6, 1945 in upstate New York after he returned from military service in Europe. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple They soon moved to Utah where Wayne’s family lived. She and Wayne attended Utah State University while living in Lewiston, Utah. Opal followed Wayne through many moves with his construction business. She went back to school in her 50’s and got her nursing degree.
Opal loved to travel, first with Wayne, then with her nursing friend, and then her daughter Julie. She went on many trips with her family. She traveled to many countries throughout the world. Opal was a member of the LDS Church. She served in many callings including serving in the Bountiful Temple for many years. Opal loved spending time with great grandchildren right up until she passed away.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, and sister Juanita. She is survived by her brother Donald, by children Lyn (Sue), Trudy (Gary Crow), Reed (Valane), Julie Wheeler, Alan (Rocio). Opal had 22 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and 2 more on the way.
A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 N. Main Street Bountiful, Utah Friday May 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 12th at 11:00 at the LDS church, 2505 So. Davis Blvd. Bountiful, Utah with a viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Internment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery 1640 Lakeview Dr. Bountiful, Utah
