Orlaug Berith Folkedal Floisand

Orlaug Berith Folkedal Floisand passed away on January 24, 2025, in Bountiful, Utah. She was 92 years old. She was born July 2, 1932, in Bergen, Norway to Halvdan Erling Folkedal and Minna Soffie Hermine Nilsen Spilde. 

Berith grew up in the beautiful coastal town of Bergen, Norway. She had fond memories of visiting her grandmother, aunt, and uncle on their farm. That farm, located on a small island off the coast of Bergen, proved to be her safe haven. On the morning of April 8, 1940, the people of Bergen awoke to learn that foreign troops had invaded during the night. These Nazi soldiers introduced a new lifestyle, governed by stern military laws. To keep her young daughter safe, Berith’s mother sent her to live on the farm. Many times, she watched from the farm as Bergen was being bombed and worried if her mom was safe.  

When she was older, she served a mission to Drammen, Norway. She emigrated from Norway to the United States after completing her mission. Once she arrived, she stayed with the Floisand family, whom she knew from Bergen. She began working at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, found an apartment, and got a roommate. But by then John Floisand was smitten with her and pursued a relationship. They were married on November 20, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised their family of eight children in Bountiful. They loved watching their family grow over the years and had a special love for each member of their family, especially their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were affectionately known as “Grandpa and Grandma Great.”  

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed doing family history work. She and John submitted countless names for temple work over the years. She served in several Church callings throughout her life.  

Berith passed away peacefully at her home on January 24, 2025. She is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with her beloved husband, Johannes “John,” granddaughter, Elise; as well as her parents and other loved ones. She is survived by eight children: Linda (Steve) Shirley of Midvale; Mike (Stephanie) Floisand of West Valley; Heidi (Warren) Stuart of Layton; Harald (Kona) Floisand of Kaysville; Lisa (Jason) Moseley of West Jordan; Steve (Leslie) Floisand of South Jordan; Judy Bee Floisand of West Jordan; and Jim Floisand of Bountiful. She also has 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  

The family wishes to thank the nurses, CNAs and physical therapists who helped Berith with their kind and tender care. We also wish to thank everyone who took the time to visit. Your thoughtfulness brightened her day with every visit. 

Funeral services will be Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in the Val Verda 3rd Ward building, 2651 South 500 West, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
