Orrin David Golightly died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the age of 98. Orrin was born July 14, 1918 in Preston, Idaho to Osburn and Myrtle Golightly. He was raised on a family farm with 7 brothers and 1 sister.
He attended Utah State University, where he majored in Geology and was a featherweight boxing Champion.
Orrin married his sweetheart, Sylva Stocks in the Logan LDS Temple, June 26, 1940.
At the age of 26 he went to serve his country in the army in WWII, leaving his wife and three young children. His was one of the first troops to enter Hiroshima after the atomic bomb.
Orrin worked at Hill Air Force Base, Case Implement Co. and retired from the Marathon Oil Co., now called Big West, where he also served as a union president for the Local.
Orrin was a member of the LDS Church and served a proselyting mission with his wife in Duluth, Minnesota, 1983-85. He loved the Lord and followed his example by his deep unconditional love for everyone.
He loved his family, the outdoors, and especially fishing, hunting and FISHING!
Orrin left a posterity of 253. He is survived by his 8 children: David (Patty), Janet Park, Lucy (Mike) Wernli, Oz (Jaylynn), Paula (Steve) Dison, Sam (Tammy), Dan (Carolee), and Vinnie (Haven) Watkins; 44 grandchildren and their families; his sister, Mabel Thurgood; brothers: Alma “Curley”, Casey (Kitty); sister-in-laws, Darlene Vanhoosen (Bill), Bonnie Lou Bennett, and son-in-law, Steve Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 children, Coy Miller and Laura Rowland; 5 brothers: Don, Richard, Leon, Harley, Bryant “Slim”; 2 grandchildren, Curt, Boyd “Bo”, 3 great-grandchildren: Ivy, Lucas and Swazy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Val Verda Stake Center 2651 South 500 West, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Tuesday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Lakeview Cemetery.
