Orson Wallace Kasteler was born on October 6, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah and passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017 due to natural causes. Our Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa was the son of Orson Walter & Sadie Viola Kasteler. Wally married Marilyn James on January 16, 1953 and were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple. Wally & Marilyn were together for 64 years and enjoyed living in Murray, Cottonwood Heights and Bountiful, Utah. They so loved their family and enjoyed being together. Traveling with their friends, near or far, was something that they thoroughly enjoyed.
Dad was an avid photographer and was considered one of the best around. He was employed at the Deseret News from 1949 through 1993 as a photographer and loved his job every day. The 44 years at the Deseret News was filled with photographing things that most people would not see in a lifetime. He photographed anything from babies to the US President and was able to witness some unique and exciting things when he was at the "right place at the right time". He had so many wonderful friends at work and he very much enjoyed being a prankster for those who came into the dark room. Dad served faithfully in the LDS Church in many different capacities. Dad was extremely handy and was referred to as the person who could fix anything. He loved cars, and at one point mentioned that the number of new cars exceed more than 40. Dad's love for the Christmas Season was something that he planned for the day after Christmas.
Wally is survived by his wife, Marilyn and their 5 children, Kimm (Jeff) Crawford, Karon (Steve) Winn, Kris (Scott) Leishman, Steve (Tammy) Kasteler, Janine (Scott) Christensen, 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, with 3 on-the-way. He is survived by his brother, Rodger Kasteler (Emma Lou). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
We would like to thank the staff at Sun Ridge Assisted Living for their loving and excellent care of Dad and Mom. We also would like to thank the ER, MICU and the Palliative Departments at the U of Utah Medical Center and their tender and loving care of Dad.
