Owen Brent Christensen passed away in his home surrounded by family on June 21, 2016. Those who know Brent describe him as a giant of a man both physically and spiritually, and his loss is felt deeply.
Born to Owen Mauss Christensen and Louise Nebeker, Brent was raised in Salt Lake City and a graduate of Highland High School. His children recall infamous stories of his childhood including claims of painting the Highland "H" (or being there…or knowing people who did it…or seeing it once…or…). Brent's family moved to Anaheim, CA while he was serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Western Canada. It was on that mission that a recently returned missionary who had served in Southern California met Brent and said, "If I were ever to go back to Anaheim it would be to date Larrie Woolf." Brent wrote down that name. And one year after returning from his mission, Brent and Larrie were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1964.
Brent's work took the family from Anaheim to Pleasanton (CA), Louisville (KY) and St. Charles (MO). In each city, he and Larrie made life long friends and served faithfully in the LDS Church. Most recently, they served together in the Temple Presidency of the St Louis Missouri Temple–one of their most cherished assignments. Upon their release in November 2015, they made final plans for a move back home to their beloved Utah which they completed in April. Though the cancer diagnosis cut their time together in Utah short, Brent took every opportunity to enjoy his mountain view and time with family alongside his "toots". He was gracious to all, especially those who cared for him these past few months. The family warmly thanks Doctors Steven Lynch, Scott Samuelson, Jane MacPherson and "Nurse McKenzie".
Brent's hobby was his family. If he wasn't serving in the Church or earning a living, he could be found with them. He was known for his ability to tell a story, have an answer for anything, his love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his unwavering devotion to his good wife. He liked good food, Mormon Bridge, Doheny Beach, old westerns, college football and Bing cherries. He and Larrie are the parents of four children (or as he would lovingly say: "three dumb broads and 1 screwball kid") who had the privilege of being raised and loved by him. He is survived by his wife Larrie, his children Heather James (Harvey), Holly Dunn (Scott), Laurel Day (Stephen) and David Christensen (Karen), his adoring grandchildren and his siblings Myrna Sprague, Gayle Moon, Lloyd Christensen and Linda Brimhall. "We are all here."
Funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday, June 25 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2141 W. 1800 N., Clinton UT. A celebration of life and viewing will be 6-8pm on Friday, June 24 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St., Farmington. Interment- Salt Lake City Cemetery.
