Patrice Allred Swain was born in Lincoln Nebraska, the second of seven children, to Chase and Virginia Allred. She spent her youth in a home surrounded by gardens, pastures, orchards and things that she loved in Provo, Utah. She loved to sing and play the piano. She graduated from BYU with a degree in Spanish, and many years later earned a second degree in horticulture from Utah State University. She loved to grow things like her children and gardens, often using the latter to help with the first. Good soil, something to plant and a little rain gave her great pleasure. Patrice believed family mattered and found great joy in hosting gatherings of her close and extended family. Patrice and Lew, her jr. companion, served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Florida. While there, she loved helping others overcome difficulties and finding happiness in their lives. Her sincere interest in others softened hearts and strengthened spirits. She taught primarily by the way she lived her own life. Patrice and Lew were married for 44 wonderful years full of happiness, hard things and hard things resolved. She expressed gratitude continually for her life that was filled with children and grandchildren, who loved her, and wonderful enduring friends who made her happy and a better person. She has always had a deep gratitude for the Savior, in whom she put her trust. She spent her life showing her love for Him through serving and loving all who knew her.
Patrice is survived by her husband Lew, daughters, Tara and Mark Walker, Erin and Freddie Ashby, Laura and Scott Baird, and Mary and Dean Simmons; and sons, Nate and Heather Swain and Matt and Chelsea Swain.
