Patty Lynne Grover Twitchell

June 21, 1932 — November 24, 2021

Patricia Lynne Grover Twitchell, 89, of Centerville, Utah, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021. These words from Proverbs 31:28-29 describe the feelings of her family perfectly, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.”

Patty Lynne was born in Rexburg, Idaho, on June 21, 1932, to Wells and Loraine Alston Grover. She was the second child and only daughter of the four children to join the family. She was a helper to her parents and a second mother to her brothers. She came to earth with a natural and uncanny ability to be neat and clean and always notice every detail. Her mother said of her, “Observation was Patty Lynne’s greatest asset. She has never missed anything large or small since she was able to tell us about it.”

Patty Lynne grew up across the street from Ricks College and was excited to attend that school starting in the fall of 1950. She attended Ricks for two years, then transferred to Brigham Young University. She graduated in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. In January of her senior year, she met Jerry Franklin Twitchell, and although neither of them was interested in the other initially, after the first date it took only two weeks before they knew it was meant to be. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 15, 1954. They were married almost 67 years before Jerry’s passing in July of this year. After so much time together, her heart just couldn’t stay in rhythm without him. We are so happy they are together again.

Patty Lynne embraced the roles of teacher and homemaker. After her marriage, she taught school in St. Anthony, Idaho, for two years until her first daughter was born. Mom always wanted a sister, perhaps that is why she only had girls. She continued to use her home economics skills in her home. She was an extraordinary seamstress and made beautiful clothes for herself and her family while also teaching her five daughters. She always took the time to make sure her daughters learned to cook, clean, and sew. She made sure homework was done, and always knew if we had practiced the piano even if she hadn’t been home. She and Dad also worked together teaching in the home, making sure that scripture study, family home evenings and family prayer always happened. Family was everything to Mom, and she spent her days making our home both a heaven and a haven on this earth.

A natural beauty, Patty Lynne took careful care throughout the years to maintain her health and appearance. She loved fashion and always liked to have the latest styles. Her neighbor once remarked that she was the only woman she knew that could look dressed up in sweats. She was a true lady in all aspects of her life-dress, grooming and demeanor.

She took her role of supporter to her husband and children seriously and was willing to make any sacrifice to help us develop our talents and was always there to cheer us on. When grandchildren came into the picture, she continued to attend concerts, recitals, and even sporting events. Jerry was often busy with church callings, and she never complained, but encouraged him to always give his best efforts. She never sought the spotlight for herself and constantly encouraged us in all we did.

Most importantly, Patty Lynne was a woman of faith and loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She strived to be exactly obedient in all that she was asked to do, or in whatever calling she received. When she was called to serve alongside Jerry two separate times as a mission president in Brazil, despite her fears and perceived inadequacies, she responded like Nephi to do all that the Lord commanded her to do. She also cherished her years spent serving with Jerry in the Bountiful Utah Temple. The last few years of her life were difficult as her health declined, but she continued to walk in faith and endure to the end. In Moroni 7:28 it says the Lord “claimeth all those who have faith in him.” We have no doubt that she has been claimed by the Savior and welcomed home.

Patty Lynne is survived by her five daughters, Sherrie (Terry) Dillon, Brenda (Steve) Baker, Carolee (Daken) Tanner, Julie (Mike) Schouten, and Annette (Tony) Benjamin; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Warren (Sharla) Grover. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her two brothers, Wells A. Grover, and Cornell Grover.
