On a beautiful crisp morning, Paul cleared one last hurdle. Paul James Jim Johnson, 88, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010. Paul was born the fourth of five children on May 15, 1922 in Preston, Idaho to Willard Johnson and Margery Oliverson. He graduated from Preston High School where he was an all around athlete, excelling in sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. In addition, he placed 2nd in the Idaho State low hurdles. Paul went on to attend the Utah State University where he joined the ROTC. He later served in the US Army as a Training Sergeant during WWII. On May 24, 1944 he married the love of his life, Wilma Wanner in the Logan LDS Temple. Throughout his life he held many jobs including Brakeman and Conductor on the U & I Railroad, Preston City Police Officer, Topographical Surveyor, and worked for Coveys Tire Company. Additionally, he worked 23 years for the Postal Service as a mail handler, receiving numerous awards. Paul and Wilma raised 3 children in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City, Utah. Pauls love was gardening and he took first place in the Sandy City Beautification program for 8 years. He also loved serving in numerous jobs for the LDS Church and was an avid home teacher. Paul is survived by his wife, Wilma Johnson; children, David Johnson (Penelope); Valerie Francis (Doyle Sturm) and Silvia Annie Johnson; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren who he adored. Paul always put everyone elses needs above his own. He was a very humble man. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Ward Chapel, 1450 North Main Street, Centerville. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Monday 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
