Paul Larry Stahle

Paul Larry Stahle was born February 28, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John and Lydia Lucile Schulthies Stahle. He was called home on August 1, 2018.

Larry grew up in Bountiful, setting type and working at the family owned Davis County Clipper. He graduated from Davis High School in 1951.  Later he went on to attend the University of Utah, Snow College, and BYU earning bachelors and masters degrees.

He married his sweetheart Vivian Joyce Turner on June 24, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed by Spencer W. Kimball. Together they had two children, Corynne and Paul.  Larry found his greatest happiness in having an eternal family with his wife and children.

Together Larry and Joyce loved traveling, whether it meant taking the truck “Buleah” and camper “Goldie” to Yellowstone as a family or experiencing the world on one of the 58 cruises they enjoyed.

Larry was the editor and publisher of the Manti Messenger and Ephraim Enterprise.  He won numerous journalism awards from the Utah Press Association, and served on their board of directors including serving as the President. Larry also worked as the personnel director at L&M Trailer Factory and the Deseret Press.  The most rewarding professional experience of his life was his teaching career at Weber State University, working as an instructor and The Signpost advisor. During his 17 years at Weber, he loved working with the students, who kept him feeling young.

Highest on his priority list was involvement in our Heavenly Father’s work. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church, including counselor in the bishopric, on the high council, in the stake and ward Sunday School, as a ward Seventy, and with Joyce as a missionary on Temple Square.  While living in Manti, Larry did the public relations for the Mormon Miracle Pageant, and enjoyed playing the role of Samuel the Lamanite and the Angel Moroni on Temple Hill.

Larry used his talent for writing to create family histories for many of his ancestors that he shared with his children and grandchildren.  He believed that building a strong family heritage was key, and that understanding our past helps us elevate our future.   

He loved each and every one of his posterity, making them birthday cakes from scratch with a message written in the frosting.  Each one of his grandchildren earned their own unique nickname from their Papa, that they were called by regularly.

Our hearts are filled with the love we have felt and the many memories we shared with him. He inspired us to be better, to work hard, and to take time for those we love.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Merna, Howard, Dean and Niles.  Larry is survived by wife Joyce, children Corynne (Mark) Armstrong and Paul (Joan) Stahle, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his brother Gail.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the friends, neighbors, and caregivers who have given their love and support.

A viewing will be held Sunday, August 5th from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Farmington. Funeral services will be Monday, August 6th at 12:00 p.m.  at the LDS Chapel on 850 N Compton Road, Farmington with a viewing preceding from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment in the Bountiful City Cemetery immediately following the services.
