Paula Marie Mattson Carpenter

November 30, 1953 — April 17, 2017

Paula Marie Mattson Carpenter, 63, wife, mother, grandma, servant and friend died peacefully at her home in Centerville, Utah on April 17th, 2017. After her valiant fight with cancer in 1975, Paula's battle resumed in November of 2016 and spread quickly. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters' carried her through the past 5 months.

Paula was born on November 30th, 1953 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to Carl and Nancy Mattson and was a sibling to 2 beautiful girls – Carla and Becky, and the most solid brother one could ask for – Terry.

Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who have been changed by witnessing her nurturing love and constant faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smile and joking around, will never be forgotten.

After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she was married to her eternal companion and sweetheart, William Thomas Carpenter, in the Washington DC Temple on December 28th, 1978. Paula & William built a beautiful life together centered on family and the gospel.  Together they adopted and raised two fortunate children, Devin and Jared, while showing them the wonders of the world. A woman of faith, and the heart of the Carpenter family, Paula lived her life being the best example of Christianity she could be. With a real zest for life, Paula loved to converse, read anything and everything she could get her hands on, play cribbage, write in her journals, pray, and play the day away with her grandchildren – Sam and Mila. Her grandchildren were precious to her, and family always came first.

Paula now joins her best friend, William – deceased in 2014, and is survived by her two children Jared Ryan (Lindsey) Carpenter and Devin Jill Carpenter and two siblings, Becky Mattson and Terry Mattson.
