Pauline Gill Cannon

Pauline Gill Cannon passed away peacefully in Bountiful, Utah, on Friday, August 20, 2021. She was born October 22, 1931, in Salt Lake City to Joseph Bramwell and Leonora Miller Gill. She married Dean Richards Cannon on June 4, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they raised three children together. They lived in Salt Lake City for the first five years of their marriage and then moved to Fullerton, California, where they lived for 11 years. They then moved to Bountiful, where she lived for the past 54 years.

As a girl Pauline was fascinated by airplanes, and she was one solo flight away from obtaining her pilot’s license in the 1960s. She also loved to run around outside with the boys and only decided it was OK to be a girl when she became a mother. Her family was the joy of her life; she especially loved bragging about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to anyone who would listen.

She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served others throughout her life. She enjoyed teaching children in Primary, serving as the stake nursery leader, working at the family history data center, and serving in the Bountiful Temple with Dean. She wanted to be a teacher when she was younger, and she cherished the opportunities she had to teach countless youth and children in the Church. She loved them, and they loved her right back. There were always enough snacks in her pantry and hugs to go around-for anyone, young or old.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ruth Cannon; her daughters, Barbara (David) Griffiths and Sarah (Nicholas) Cassavaugh; two sisters, Sally Jones and Jolene Gillette; 17 grandchildren (including in-laws-once you married into the family, you were one of hers); and 21 great-grandchildren, plus one more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; her son, Richard; two grandchildren, Krystle and Angel; and two sisters, Marilyn Mead and LaVon Carter.

Her family and friends will miss her hugs, her stories, and the joy she found in the little things (and the giggles that often accompanied that joy), but they’re comforted by thoughts of the reunion she is having with those who have already passed on, especially Dean and Richard. Pauline’s family would like to thank all those who helped care for her in the last few weeks of her life. You were truly angels to her and to all of us.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 27, at the Mueller Park 2nd Ward, 850 East 1850 South, Bountiful. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, or Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 at the church prior to services.
