Peggy graduated with honors on May 21, 2024, to the heaven she fervently strived for.
She dearly missed her sweetheart Bob, and is thrilled to be reunited with him, along with her beloved first-born son Terry and first grandson Taylor.
Born in Pennsylvania to Floyd and Dorothy Goodwin, she treasured all associations with cousins, friends and relatives as she grew up somewhat lonely without any living siblings.
A graduate of Penn State University in home economics, she was a talented seamstress who wrote a book on how to customize patterns and she also enhanced her home with many projects. She spent time teaching the grandchildren to sew pajama pants and contributed to special day outfits. She also had a talent for art and enjoyed doing photography with Bob in their early years. She was always so happy to see her grandchildren and would encourage them in anything they wanted to do.
Meals were always a fun time at the Emery home. The best Spaghetti ever was an oft-requested meal, and she was not intimidated by more complicated dishes for special occasions, tackling dishes like Chicken Kiev and Manhattan Clam Chowder. Birthdays were a fun time, too, as she always had streamers, candles, and cake at the ready. Christmas brought the Yankee gift exchange and personalized stockings, she tirelessly prepared for holidays. She made everyone feel special.
She sought out the truth, being baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ as a convert at the age of 33 and embraced the church wholeheartedly, working in many capacities from Cub Scouts to Relief Society. Her name adorns many recipes in several ward cookbooks. Moving from Pennsylvania to Utah in 1981 was a great experience as she was excited to be among the Saints. This later led to Bob being baptized (after much patience, prayer, and tender loving care from neighbors): together they enjoyed time serving in the Bountiful Temple. She attributes their happy marriage to living the Golden Rule.
This rule she applied to all people she met in life. No one can remember a critical word coming out of her mouth; on the road the most annoying driver would only earn being called “petunia”. Peggy would diffuse anger with unexpected kindness. And she was so encouraging and supportive for whatever activities and pursuits her boys and others were interested in.
She kept a long list of people to pray for, friends and relatives. It became a thing on occasion to ask Peggy to pray for something because she was so tuned in to heaven. A woman of great faith, she approached life with a smile on her face and a prayer in her heart.
She so loved and adored her Centervillle neighbors and was sad to leave them when, for health reasons, it was no longer possible for her to remain living alone in her home. A special thank you to the staff of Legacy House of Bountiful, Ben and the team at Utah Home Health. She told everyone she was so well looked after.
She leaves behind her sons Dale (Lisa) Emery, Scott (Michelle) Emery and her beloved grandchildren, Allison, Brooklyn, Cameron, Slater, Sarah and Rylee.
