Penny Suzanne Richards passed into eternity October 19, 2018, surrounded by loving children who had remained by her side in the months leading up to her death by natural causes. A lover of family, friends, the University of Utah, and all things political, Penny struggled with her health the last years of life while living at Friendship Manor, across the street from where her beloved Utes played football.
Prior to her retirement in 2002, Penny spent 40 years in hospitality, including 23 years with Little America-years that she claimed were some of her best, working with people she enjoyed and getting to know political leaders, musicians, and actors whose stay at Little America she facilitated and managed.
Born April 18, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Joseph and Virginia Richards, Penny was a 1954 graduate of East High School, where her father spent a career as principal. She attended the University of Utah and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her life focused on family, as she raised seven children and adored 24 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a niece and two nephews.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Virginia Richards; her sister, JoAnne Bown; two great grandchildren, Preslie Martin and Kayden Timmons; and her step-mother, Elizabeth Richards. She is survived by her children, Randy and Denise McDonald, Tammy and William Nixon, Ginger and Dalin Beveridge, Tory and Mary McDonald, Kari Lund, Suzie and Todd Parsons, and Jason Richards, as well as her brother-in-law, Greg Bown.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, October 27, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main Street, Farmington, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10:30 to 11:00, with the funeral beginning at 11:00. Interment will be at the Farmington Memorial Cemetery directly following the funeral.
