Perry D. Larsen

Perry D. “Pete” Larsen was born on August 24, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Velma Louise Wilson and Lawrence Charles Larsen. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with his mom and brother, when he was 14 years old. He attended Granite High, where he made lifelong friends, including Dale Pascoe, Floyd Memmott, Don Fielden, and Darryl Darger, with whom he associated for over 60 years.

Pete married the love of his life, Elaine Fisher, on June 14,1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent the first two years of their married life at Fort Eustis in Virginia, where he served in the U.S. Army. They made many great friends there who were also newlyweds. Pete and Elaine later moved back to Utah, where Pete built their family home. They raised five very talented children who have honored them with 21 grandkids and 24 great-grandchildren.

Pete worked at Hill Air Force Base for 35 years as a foreman and enjoyed his time there, maintaining several models of airplanes. He loved his country and was very patriotic. He was retired longer than he worked, and was never bored.

His life was full of service; he was always helping other people. He served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a bishop, high councilor, and Primary teacher, but none compared to his favorite calling of all – that of a scoutmaster, where he influenced many young men. He and Elaine served a mission at Cove Fort in 2014, providing tours to the many visitors there.

He enjoyed great friendships throughout his life, including three of his closest friends, Dave Anderson, Morris Durrant, and Sonny Smith. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. Pete and Elaine had a great time traveling with special neighbors and enjoyed many a swap meet!

Pete relished being out in nature and spent many years hunting and camping with his sons, grandsons, and close friends. Pete and Elaine loved spending time with each other and with their family. They regularly participated in many family activities, including camping, 5Ks, long walks, and all other sorts of big and small happenings. Pete was a kid at heart and loved to pull faces, crack a joke, and tell a good story.

He had a love of learning and always taught that it was a good day if you learned something new. He had many talents including auto mechanics, construction, upholstery, crossword puzzles, puzzles, and pen making. He could build, fix, or repair anything, and if he didn’t know how, he would learn how to do it, even if it meant making his own specialized tools. He always left things better than he found them.

He passed away on September 14, 2021, in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by his wife and kids. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and his children, Trent Larsen, Mark Larsen (Teresa), Troy Larsen (Tammy), Traci Sutton, and Trudi Crossley (Cory).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Centerville Utah South Stake Center, 270 North 300 East, Centerville. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
