Pete Strickland

September 14, 1941 — June 23, 2021

DK “Pete” Strickland passed away peacefully at home on June 23rd, 2021.  Pete’s heart, that loved so well for 79 years, finally gave out.  Perfectly described by a friend, “Pete was a party to have, a story to be told, a life to live, a friend to invite, and a heart to testify.”

Pete was born on September 14th, 1941 to Lewis and Maud Strickland in Ocala, Florida. The youngest of seven children, Pete graduated from high school in Wildwood, Florida, then served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Southern California.

Following his mission, he attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1967 with a BS Degree in Business Management.  While there he met the love of his life, Linda Babb Strickland. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple May 28, 1965.  They built a life centered on their family while living in Platte City, Missouri and raising their three children.  Pete loved their community and serving as a New York Life Insurance agent until retiring and moving to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2008.

Pete and Linda served an 18-month mission on Temple Square before settling into their new, and equally loved, community of Syracuse, Utah.  He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.

He will be missed dearly.  Pete is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda (Babb) Strickland, three children: Jill Critchfield, Jason (Kristy) Strickland and Julie (Todd) Johnson and his brother Jim (Elaine) Strickland, Mother-in-law Jessie M. Babb.  He leaves 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Father-in-law James Babb, five siblings JayNell, Joyce, Miriam, Martha, and Bud, as well as his grandson Luke Strickland.

If desired, donations in his name may be made to LDS Humanitarian Fund or Hearts to Hands in care of B.J. Warnick.

His life will be celebrated in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel at 3267 West 700 South, Syracuse UT on Thursday, July 1st at 11am.  Viewings will be held Wednesday, June 30th 6-8pm at the Russon Mortuary 1585 W. 300 S. Syracuse, UT as well as Thursday, July 1st 9:30-10:30 am at the chapel (address above).  Services will be streamed via Facebook live. Russon Mortuary & Crematory FB page, a link can also be accessed from Pete’s obituary at www.russonmortuary.com.  Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
