Phyllis Call Ball

Our dear mother, Phyllis Call Ball, passed away on March 21, 2021, of natural causes at her home in Bountiful, Utah, into the waiting arms of countless loved ones on the other side of the veil.  She was born to Olive Bertha Clark & David Call Jr on April 17, 1932 at their family rock home in Bountiful, Utah on the corner of 200 W 1000 N.  She attended the old Stoker Elementary school, South Davis Junior High, Davis High School, and the Dee Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her nursing degree.  She was married to her husband, Val Lyman Ball for over 60 years, and together they had 5 wonderful children whom she dearly loved.  Mom and Dad took their family on many adventurous trips together ranging from camping trips in Utah to cruises in Hawaii, creating many wonderful memories never to be forgotten.  She was a hard worker and spent her youth working in the fields with her beloved dad on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work and integrity.  She went on to work for many years at Lakeview Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse, where she assisted in bringing countless lives into the world and made many wonderful, lifelong friends.

Mom was always learning and loved to share her many talents and knowledge with others.  She loved the arts and found great joy in oil painting, ballroom dancing, cooking, and sewing.  She taught herself to paint and created many wonderful pieces of art that her family will cherish for generations to come.  She taught herself how to decorate cakes when her children were young so they could have fancy birthday cakes, then went on to bake many of her children’s and grandchildren’s wedding cakes.  She was also very skilled in the art of making chocolates at Christmas time, always saving some for Valentine’s Day too.  She overcame many hardships in her life, not the least of which was a severe burn incident that left her hospitalized for many weeks.  She lived in her Bountiful home that Val built for over 60 years and cherished the relationships she had with all her neighbors and friends… from making decorated marshmallow Easter eggs, sledding down the street, Colter Bay trips, BYU tailgating parties, pool parties, card games, and so much more.

Phyllis was an active member of the 31^st ward in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she regularly volunteered her many talents.  She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ, and willingly served in leadership positions throughout the ward and stake, even as Young Women’s secretary at the age of 87.  She never turned down a calling or opportunity to serve others.  She loved making quilts with her dear friends in the ward and together they donated hundreds of hand-made quilts to charitable causes throughout her life.  She was an active member of DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers).  She loved writing family histories and celebrating her pioneer heritage.  She was much esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances who knew her as a loving mother, dear friend, and faithful latter-day saint.

Her family would like to thank the countless neighbors and ward members who showed such kindness and service to mom throughout her life, but especially during the years since dad passed away, she appreciated it so much.  We would also like to thank her special nurse granddaughter, Rachel Hatch, for her daily visits and tender care to grandma, she loved you so!  Our family had the privilege of caring for mom round the clock for the past several weeks, which was a great blessing to us.  We’ll miss her dearly!

Mom is survived by her five children: Garth (Karen) Ball, Stan (Jan) Ball, Theresa (Bruce) Christensen, Kevin (Becky) Ball, and Mary Lyn (Brent) Keck, 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and siblings: J David Call, Ann (Jerry) Kammerman, and Henry (JaNeal) Call.  She was preceded in death by her husband Val Lyman Ball, parents David and Bertha Call, sister Lucille C Stringham, brothers Lewis and Orland Call, grandson Carter Christian Ball, and great-grandson Kayden James Christensen.

A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful UT on Sunday, March 28, 2021, 6-8 pm.  Funeral services will be held at the Bountiful 31st Ward chapel on Monday, March 29, 2021, at 11:00 am with a viewing prior to at 9:45 am- 10:45 am.  Burial services for family and close friends will take place directly afterwards at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
