Richard Gail Stahle, age 88 of St. George, Utah, completed his mortal journey peacefully on March 30, 2024, surrounded by family.
Gail was born November 19, 1935, to John and Lucile Stahle in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Davis County attending Davis High School. He met and married his eternal sweetheart, Shirley Ann Hall in 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shirley crossed through the veil in 2017, and later Gail married Carol McKee in 2020 where they made their home in St George.
Gail worked in the family newspaper business from a very young age. He went into business for himself and was highly regarded by his peers as a pioneer in the newspaper and publishing field. He launched the Color Country Spectrum in St. George, being the first person to start a new daily newspaper in Utah in 75 years. In 1989, he purchased and served as Publisher of The Davis County Clipper, which was family owned and operated from 1892-2020. In 2008, he launched Iron County Today successfully guiding it until its sale in 2023. He was the founder and President of Spectrum Press, a commercial printing company located in Bountiful, Utah.
Gail found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and serving in the Mesa, Salt Lake, and Bountiful Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had the opportunity to serve on the Temple Presidents staff in Salt Lake and counted that as one of his most cherished memories. His love of the temple reflected his love for Jesus Christ. That love blessed the lives of his family and his growing posterity.
Gail loved his family and found joy in working with many of his children in his business over the space of his career. He always encouraged family members to place family as one of life’s highest priorities. He had a beautiful tenor voice. His favorite piece of music was Handel’s Messiah. He was instrumental in launching the South Davis Community Choir. He loved baseball and had an amazing pitching arm, many can attest to his ability to throw a hard fast ball even into his 70’s.
It is not possible to communicate all the wonder of Gail’s life in a few words. Gail is deeply loved and respected by those he has left behind. However, we know that his legacy of faith and devotion to God will live on in those who knew and loved him.
Gail was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his grandchildren Spencer and Sarah Stahle, and great-children Stella and Charlotte Stahle. He is survived by his wife Carol; his children Richard (Ann) Stahle, Scott (Leslie) Stahle, Sheila (Hayes) Powell, Lorie (Mitch) Matern, Reed (Julie) Stahle, David (Carol) Stahle, Clark (Jennifer) Stahle, 29 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and growing.
The family would like to thank the many hours of care and kindness given to Gail by Intermountain Medical Hospice.
