The family of Rachel Hazen Reid Nelson would like to announce a celebration of life in honor of our Angel Mother who peacefully left this mortal existence on November 4, 2010 in Arlington, Texas. She was 91 years old and still had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. All who knew her, loved her dearly. For the last fifteen months, Mom lived with her youngest daughter, Keri Dean and her family. She enjoyed Texas and especially loved the little Primary children in the LDS Ward she attended while living there. Rachel was born June 5, 1919 to John Ernest and Mary Alice Hazen Reid. She was the youngest of four children; a brother, Bert, and two sisters, Mary Connary and Afton Luker. She attended Onequa Elementary School, Jackson Jr. High and West High School. Rachel married Jack Emil Nelson, the love of her life, in 1939. When Dad died in 1996, they had been married for 57 years. In 1999 Mother was sealed in the Bountiful, Utah Temple to her husband and children. It was a beautiful day in her life. Rachel worked most of her married life as a seamstress at Pioneer Furniture and Mattress Co. and Spring Air Mattress Co. Her greatest pleasure came from being with family and friends, going to dances with Dad, camping in their little trailer, and singing songs with Dad and the children as they went for long rides in the mountains or while sitting around a campfire. She had many wonderful memories of those great times. We know that Mother is having a glorious reunion now with all the loved ones who have gone on before her. Her father passed away in the 1919 flu epidemic just four months before little Rachel was born. She always looked forward to the day when she would meet him. How happy she must be now. Mother is survived by her four children, Marge (John) Hadley, Mary Ann (Fred) Burton, Jack Lee (Sue) Nelson, and Keri (Bob) Dean; as well as 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. She knew and loved each and every one. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joy Nelson Barnett; many nieces, nephews and special friends and neighbors, all of whom have been blessed by knowing our special Mom. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary 295 North Main where a viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Monday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Rachel will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Dr. SLC, Utah. We love you Mom! So long for now until we meet again!
