Ralph Ashby passed away on September 23, 2023. He was born November 6, 1936, to Glen and Emily Bohner Ashby. He attended Davis High School and later Brigham Young University where he played baseball and met the love of his life, Jean Ashby. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. Together they raised 5 sons. Ralph loved sports, from playing baseball and basketball to supporting BYU from the stands.
He taught at Viewmont High School from their opening until he retired in 2006. There he taught math and coached girls' basketball, boys' basketball, and baseball. He was also a decorated teacher, being honored as Teacher of the Year in 1992. He was known for having his students learn how to juggle and live by his motto: Think Big, Prepare Well, Work Hard, and Live Right.
Ralph loved his garden. He grew a huge garden every year. He was also an avid collector of Ty Beanie Babies and coins, buying any and all quarters from the grandkids.
Ralph loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and served a mission to Arizona and Southern California. He had many callings; his favorite was being a Sunday School teacher. He had a vast knowledge of the gospel and loved to share it, especially with his family. He sent three boys on missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ralph was preceded in death by his sweetheart Jean, sons Gary and Kevin, brothers Reed and Steven, and sisters Ruby and Joan. He is survived by sons; Craig (LoriAnn) Ashby, Kyle (Kimberly) Ashby, and Kristopher (Christina) Ashby, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Elevation Hospice and Rocky Mountain Care in Clearfield for their care during the last few weeks of his life.
