Ralph Barlow Clark

September 12, 1933 — May 17, 2022

Ralph Barlow Clark died peacefully on the morning of May 17th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He finally got his wish to be with his loving wife Lyn.

He was born on September 12, 1933, in Farmington Utah, the son of Orson Richards Clark and Lucille Barlow. He graduated from Davis High School and went on to get a Bachelor’s degree at BYU where he met the love of his life Lynore Hales. They were later married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 3rd, 1957.

Together they moved to Logan, Utah where he received his Master’s at Utah State University. They then moved to California where he received a PHD in Plant and Soil Sciences (Mineral Nutrition) from UCLA. He worked for the USDA in the field of agricultural research in Ohio, Nebraska and West Virginia. His assignments allowed him to write and present various scientific papers, advise many graduate students from around the world, and travel extensively throughout the United States and worldwide. During this time, they had 6 children.

He was recognized for his accomplishments by the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science of America. His children called him “The Dirt Doctor”.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he volunteered in many church positions. His greatest love was genealogy and helping others with their family history.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lynore, his parents, and sisters Ruth Bentley and Naomi Foster.

He is survived by his brothers Merrill (Melba), Gordon (Caryl Ann) and sister Lucille (Hal) Rigby. He will be missed by his children, Ella Christine (Kent) Fuller, Bryan Ralph (Carine), Kevin Barlow (Winona), Alan Lynn, Stephen Hales, and Anne Marie (Samuel) and 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

At the end of his life, he enjoyed going to the gym with Lejla, his great-grandbabies, and his recent grandson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all Ralph’s caregivers at Creekside Senior Living with special thanks to Lejla, Kim, Ava and the staff in memory care. We also want to thank Bree and Julie at A-Plus Hospice.
