Born March 20, 1924 in Hinckley, Utah to Hyrum Braithwaite and Lydia Madora Mickelson Bown. Ralph grew up primarily in Salt lake City. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in England. Married Rosalie Johnson 20 November 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Received a Bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Utah in Education. Raised three children: James Ralph Bown, Patricia Bown and Charles William Bown. Following Rosalie’s death, he married Wanda Vee Steward Thorpe. Ralph worked as an educator at West High School, Steward School at the University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College. He and Rosalie served missions at Temple Square and on the island of Tarawa.
Ralph was an avid snow and water skier. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was active as a boy scout leader.
Throughout Ralph’s life he engage in several entrepreneurial ventures such as the Custom Firescreen Company, Custom Asphalt Paving Company and Custom Service Company. In his later years he built a cabin for his family in Tollgate Canyon.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; Jim (Shelby) Bown, Patricia Bown and Charley (Becky) Bown. He has 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, where a viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
