Ralph was born to Lillie Ferrell and Ralph Moyle Cluff (the first of 8 children) in Provo, Utah. Ralph married Jolene Rydalch on 11 July 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ralph and Jolene are the parents of ten children, grandparents of twenty-one, and great-grandparents of twenty-four.
Ralph was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a full-time missionary in Central America for two and one-half years, Spanish speaking. (Serving in all countries except Costa Rica.) He served in many capacities during his mortal life including, Sunday School teacher, Bishop, Branch President, High Councilor, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, High Priest Group Leader, Home Teacher, and Ministering Brother. Staying true to the doctrine and procedures was important to Ralph. When presented with any problem, he would look to the scriptures, the counsel of the prophets, and the Church Handbook for guidance and direction; then he followed those precepts carefully and with exactness. Ralph is noted for saying at the end of each teaching opportunity, "If all else fails, The Gospel is still true!"
Ralph worked in many capacities throughout his mortal life. He grew up in the dairy farming industry where his father and maternal grandfather worked. He began milking cows, running hay, and all farm activities at a tender age. He used these skills learned throughout his mortal life, from actual farm activity to what he termed the "farm boy approach", "Don't tell me it is impossible, until after I have already done it".
Ralph studied education and received a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and was a lifelong Aggie. While at Utah State, he received his pilot's license and learned cabinet making. He taught for a brief time in California and then began working for a company building the Saturn Rockets. Then he took a job working with Taco Time managing the building of their restaurants in the western states. Later he became a general contractor and worked for many years in that capacity.
Ralph would go on to use his construction and management skills to build temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was project manager on temples in the United States, Mexico, Spain, and Africa. He always said he had a career to die for.
Ralph served in the military, first with the Idaho National Guard, then the Utah National Guard, and finally the U.S. Army as part of the draft. He has a great love of the United States and was always grateful his first language is English. On his return from each excursion outside of the U.S., he was always a little emotional when the passport person said, “Welcome home, Mr. Cluff”.
Ralph is preceded in death by his wife (Jo or Frau), a son (Greggory), his parents, three brothers (William, Harold, and David), a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and a great- grandchild. He is survived by his children Stephanie Jo Orison (Ricky, deceased), Greggory, deceased (Carolyn), William (Lauri), Courtney (Shari), Jeffrey (Amber, deceased), Kenyan (Missy), Kimberlie Jo Rew (Nephi), Rodney (Melissa), Jennifer Jo, and Melissa Jo; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, three brothers, and a sister.
