Randall Strand

Randall Einar Strand, “The Great Adventurer” unexpectedly began his final voyage on July 6th 2013. Randy passed away from injuries sustained in a tragic horse riding mishap that occurred in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming. His passing has left many friends, children, and grandchildren with the great duty and challenge of carrying on his legacy for working hard, playing harder and giving without regret. Randall, “Randy”, was born in Culver City California January 2nd, 1942 to Einar Harold Strand, and Grace Mckean Strand. He grew up in San Bernardino California, and Bountiful Utah. Randy Graduated from Bountiful High School in 1960, then served an honorable LDS mission to Florida. The night he arrived home from his mission, he met the love of his life Dott Elaine Jensen. They were married March 18th 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple, and thus began the perfect partnership known to all as “Dott and Randy”. They supported each other throughout the completion of their secondary education. Randy completed his degree in Electronic Engineering from Weber State in 1969.
Dott and Randy opened their home to anyone who stood in need of a loving home, be it a shoulder to cry on, a much needed laugh, a school of philosophy, academic tutoring, or just a good time. They had several foster children, before the births of their two children Misty and Nate. Randall was called to serve in numerous church callings primarily involving the youth. He was a mentor, a father figure, and most importantly a good friend. Randy personally organized and funded expeditions to nearly every region of the world. He climbed the snow capped mountain tops of Kilimanjaro and Whitney, and dove to the bluest depths of oceans bordering every continent. Randy was a skilled marksman. If it creeps, crawls, swims, or flies, chances are Strand hunted it, swam with it, flew with it, or caught it. Those who were lucky enough to join him on his adventures were treated to a sense of humor, and clever whit the World may never see again. He was an accomplished pilot and enjoyed flying to many locations through out the western states.
Professionally Randy’s intelligence and work ethic preceded his reputation. Randy successfully ran his own business for over 30 years. He was the brain trust of many electrical sub stations built and currently operating throughout Utah. His ability to fix anything and everything had no boundaries between his professional life and his personal life. If an item was broken, or not working, Randy could fix it.
Randy was an active member of his LDS ward, and accepted callings to serve in many capacities. While perfecting his most passionate calling as a father and grandfather, many young men and women found their identities and life callings as a result of the warm embrace of his smile, and accepting nature of his enlightening personality. Randy taught hundreds of people to enjoy his hobbies, and pastimes which included but were not limited to hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, running, biking, scuba diving, water skiing, shooting guns, building guns, bow hunting, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and ATVs.
The past 12 years of Randy’s life have been spent creating unforgettable adventures and sweet memories with his grandchildren. Each one captured his heart completely with their unique personalities, and endless zest for life that only Strand himself could compete with. He cultivated personal relationships with each one assuring them that they were unconditionally loved, accepted and appreciated.
Randy is survived by his loving wife Dott, siblings, Diana (Lanny) Tracy, Dixie (Layne)Heiner, Emery Strand, Amy (Kerry Johnson) Strand, Kay Strand, their two children Misty (Luke) Greer, and Nathan (Korbi Povey) Strand, and seven grandchildren, Abi, Josh, Aiden, Gage, Lauren, Cam, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his foster daughter Rose Chilton. In lieu of flowers please make all contributions to the Bountiful Heights 50th Ward Missionary Fund. Funeral Services to be held Saturday July 13th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel: 33 South Moss Hill Dr, Bountiful
Viewing to be held at:Russon Brothers 295 N Main St, Bountiful -Friday July 12, 2013 from 6 -8pm and prior to funeral on Sat July 13th from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.
