Ray Delmar Burningham

Ray Delmar Burningham, 8/4/1941—7/1/2019.  Ray Burningham passed away in his home in Hurricane, Utah at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer.  He was born in Salt Lake City on August 4, 1941 to Amos Del Mar Burningham and Mirtis (Twitchell) Burningham and grew up in West Bountiful.  He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1959.  He then served in the Western States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  On March 14, 1963, he married the love of his life, Barbara Trump (1942-2008), in the Logan Temple.  Theirs is one of the world’s great love stories and a perfect marriage. He was a faithful member of the Church throughout his life and held many callings, including High Councilman and, most recently, Ward Mission Leader, a calling he loved perhaps more than any other.  He also enjoyed a long and varied career.  He began working at age 13 at Winegar’s grocery store and spent several years in the grocery business, working for Mayfair and Dick’s Market.  He then spent more than two decades working in heating and air conditioning at Davis County Sheet Metal Works, where he, his wife Barbara, and his brother-in-law, James Trump, eventually became co-owners of the family business.  In the late 1980s and early 1990s he worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance, and then spent ten years managing the law offices of Mitton and Burningham.  In 2001, he moved to Hurricane, where, after proudly building a new home by hand, he finished his career as an employment counselor with the State of Utah’s Department of Workforce Services.  He retired in 2018 at the age of 76.  Throughout his life, Ray was passionate about maintaining a beautiful and manicured lawn and garden. He was an avid fan of the University of Utah, and was famous in his Hurricane neighborhood for meticulously cutting a prominent “U” into his front lawn, as well as for flying the U of U flag. Additionally, Ray was a lifelong lover of sports, especially baseball, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family at both major and minor league games. He was preceded in death by his father Amos Del Mar Burningham, his mother Mirtis Twitchell, his beloved wife Barbara Trump, and his sister Geraldine Burningham Olsen. He will be greatly missed by his children Bruce (Toni) Burningham and Sue Ellen (Taalon) Huber; by his grandchildren Cassandra Burningham, Drew Burningham, Alex (Mindy) Burningham-Huber, Braxton Huber, Jaiden Huber, Gavin Huber, and Kayci Huber; by his great-grandchildren Oakley Huber and Silas Huber; by his siblings Joyce Russell, Betty (Mike) Adamson, David Burningham, and Sue Politowicz; and by his many beloved nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the West Bountiful 8th ward chapel, 311 North 800 West, West Bountiful, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
