Ray Johnson

Kind hearted and hard working long time Bountiful resident, Ray Kenney Johnson, 73, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife, Shannon.
Born February 8, 1939 to Marion Kenney and Lois Webb Johnson in Fillmore, Utah. Graduated from Provo High School and served 3 years in the U.S. Army. Married his sweetheart, Shannon Jckowski, on August 21, 1970. They were later sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had six children.
Ray spent his entire life quietly, anonymously serving others and asked nothing in return. A man of substance, integrity, and ingenuity, he could build, fix, or make anything, with odds and ends from his shop and happily spent countless hours teaching others his unlimited handyman skills. “Why hire someone when you can do it yourself.” Willing to do whatever, Ray never complained. He loved to work, work was his play. He mastered the skill of listening, encouraging, and comforting others. He was energetic, witty, frugal, approachable and empathetic. His outgoing nature quickly put people at ease. Though a man of few words, his wisdom and advice were sought after by many who understood that when he talked, there was a lesson to be learned.
An active member of the LDS Church, Ray served in many callings, including Venture Scout Leader, Counselor in the Bishopric of Barton Creek Ward and Rocky Mountain Care Center, Temple Worker, and designated “Fix-It-Man”.
“Family First” was his motto and making memories with family was his priority.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and grandson Christopher Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Shannon; children: Rob (Sandy) Johnson; Rick (Lori) Johnson; Terry Johnson; Debbie Litz; Diana (Grant) Richey; JoLin (Michael) Johnson; mother-in-law Theresa Jckowski, 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ray now belongs to an exclusive group of special people, his 3 siblings, who all died of cancer in their early 70’s: Marian Baker, Maurice Johnson, Brant Johnson. As he walks into heaven to meet his family, he can proudly turn and look back on his life of service and say, “Damn, I’m good!”

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11:00 am at Barton Creek Ward, 640 S 750 E, Bountiful. You may visit Friday, March 16 from 6-8 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful or also at 9:30-10:30 am at the Church on Saturday before the Service. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
