Raymond Jr. Couch passed away April 23, 2017, at the age of 87 in Layton, Utah, with his eternal sweetheart by his side.
He was born August 27, 1929 in Malad, Idaho to Raymond Joshua Couch and Margaret Williams Couch. His siblings are Gerald Couch and Barbara Banford who all preceded him in death; so what a joyous reunion.
He attended Bear River High School in Garland, Utah, where he met the love of his life and eternal companion Bernice Spencer. They married September 15, 1949, and in August of 1950 he was called to serve in the Korean war as a member of the Utah National Guard Unit 204, in the field artillery. He returned home in January of 1952, and they resided in West Bountiful, Utah. In June of 1952 they were sealed in the Logan, Utah temple for time and all eternity.
Ray is survived by his wife, Bernice, four daughters and one son. RaJean Olsen (Alan), Gary Couch (Sandy), Char Bosen (Kurt), Carolyn Hibler (Rick) and Sherrie Reynolds (Charlie), 20 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren and one more on the way (at least that's all we know about).
Ray enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, sports (especially BYU), and boating with his family! He got pure enjoyment from teaching all his children and grandchildren to waterski, but even more than that he loved whipping them around behind the boat on the tube. He served in various capacities within the LDS church. Among his favorite were serving in the Salt Lake and Bountiful temples, and serving two LDS missions in the Washington D.C. temple with the love of his life and companion of 67 years! Their first mission was from 1992-1993 and their second mission was 1996-1997. Any time he could spend with his sweetheart and his family were his most cherished moments.
The family would like to thank his caretakers at Canyon Homecare and Hospice and all of the staff at Apple Village Assisted living. He taught them new vocabulary words like knucklehead and loved and treated him as if he was their own father and grandfather. Mom was a regular there as she sat by his side every day, and she received extra loving care as well. A special thank you to all the friends, family and relatives that have visited with Dad over the last several months, right up until the very end of his mortal life.
Funeral services will be held this Saturday April 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS church located at 790 W. 1500 S. Woods Cross, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening, April 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, in Bountiful, Utah and Saturday, April 29th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will take place at Memorial Lakeview Estates 1640 E Lakeview Dr, Bountiful, UT 84010.
