Raymond Spry

October 4, 1948 — January 31, 2020

Raymond Spry passed away on January 31, 2020.  Ray was born in Michigan on October 4, 1948. Before making his way to Utah in 1983, Ray attended Garden City West High School, spent four years in the U.S. Navy, graduated from University of Michigan, and received graduate degrees from Eastern Michigan University. He paid his way through college by owning a restaurant business and ended his career at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City and retiring after 30 years building online training for hospital staff.  Ray is survived by his wife Tomoko, and two sons, Joshua and Wesley, his brothers Bill, Kenny, Ramon, sisters Patty Ellen, Blanca, Kelly, Renee, and Tammy.

He met his wife Tomoko in 1978, proposing two weeks after they first met. They were married in Japan in 1979.  They moved to Salt Lake City shortly after graduate school so he could take a job with the VA Medical Center, and the starting building a life in Utah. He will be remembered for his humor, constant tinkering around the house, eagerness to be helpful, love of historical movies, dedication to his dogs, and insistence on using his short order cook skills every Christmas morning.

Ray was a two time survivor of colon cancer. The family suggests sending memorial contributions to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020; visits with family from 12 noon to 1:00 pm with a short funeral service starting at 1:00 pm, at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main St., Farmington, UT 84025.
