Rebecca Ann Bate Sperry, 70, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, peacefully in her home in Mesquite, Texas. She was born on April 8, 1950, to Louis Bloyce Bate, Jr. and Kathleen Daines Bate in Nampa, Idaho. Becky attended Tolman Elementary, Bountiful Junior High, and graduated with honors in 1968 from Viewmont High School in Bountiful, Utah. Becky subsequently attended Weber State College and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education in 1973.
Becky married Steven William Sperry on September 29, 1973, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together they had three children; they later divorced. Becky lived in Roy Utah, Orem Utah, Casper Wyoming, and again in Bountiful Utah. She most recently lived in Mesquite, Texas, near six of her grandchildren, which brought her tremendous joy.
Becky loved going to quilt stores with friends and family and looked forward to weekends spent shopping for fun fat-quarters and unique buttons. She was a talented artist and was known for her beautiful quilting, crocheted gifts, paintings, and elegant greeting cards. Much of Becky’s time during her retirement was spent chatting with friends and creating gifts for those she loved.
Becky was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities. She served most notably as a teacher, giving lessons that were brilliantly thought out and prepared, and she was famous in the Bountiful 10th Ward for her weekly sacrament meeting bulletins.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children Deanna (Ryan) Forssell of Richardson, Texas, Susanne (Riley) Israel of Plano, Texas, and Clark (Erica) Sperry of Farmington Utah, her brother, Michael Bate (Marge) of Phoenix, Arizona, two nephews and one niece, Berkeley Bate, Emily Wright, and Kyle Bate, and her one and only first cousin, Sally Blunck of Bountiful, Utah. Becky has seven beautiful grandchildren, Autumn, Dillon, Joshua, Chandler, Sarah, Faith, and Tatum, who are her pride and light.
Deanna, Susanne, and Clark express deep gratitude for the loving and attentive staff of Christian Care Communities and Services who loved mom like family. Their support has been invaluable.
