Biography

Reed Walter Johnson “Whitey”
On Saturday February 18th 2012, around Noon, the world lost a wonderful human being, Reed Walter “Whitey” Johnson.
He left this world the same way he entered it, peacefully, at home, surrounded by those who love him.

Whitey was born September 25, 1926 at home to Carl Walter Johnson and Stephanie Nilson Johnson.
A perpetual gentleman, he always put others needs above his own. He was the kindest man you’d ever meet. Not only would he give you the shirt off his back he would give you his pants, socks, shoes and his last few dollars as well. He has taken in and cared for so many people. Once you were his friend, you became part of his family. He was enormously compassionate. He engaged people throughout his life in a generous manner unlike any other. He was an unbelievably joyous human being. He was eternally playful and his humor shined through always. He lovingly took care of his ailing wife for years and mourned her passing every day since. Not only did he raise his four children he gladly helped in raising and guiding many of their friends.
He married the love of his life Andrea Jacqueline Earl June 1, 1955 and was later solemnized in the LDS Temple.

He was a proud Navy man. He left South High in his senior year to join the U.S. Navy. He was stationed throughout the South Pacific during WWII.
He retired from Kennecott Copper after many years, although the span of jobs he has held is too long to list.
Whitey enjoyed many things in life, among them he loved to play golf, go bowling, sing and dance, and was a prideful gardener. He loved the simple things the most, and always enjoyed a good hamburger.
Whitey is survived by his sister Helen Osberg, son Robert (Scott) Johnson, daughters Katherine (Dr. Thomas) Lloyd, Stephanie West, Mimi (Simon) Bradstreet. Grandchildren Andrew Lloyd, Rebecca (Bryant) Johnson, Kenneth Freund, Michael Lloyd, Elizabeth Lloyd, Krystal Peterson, Ulrik Rawles, Gabriel Johnson, and Chuckee Johnson. Great grandchildren Autumn Hill, Lillian Freund, Tyson Freund, and Olivia Doherty. Extended family Elizabeth Bradstreet, Dr. Chester Bradstreet, Emily (Scooter Doherty) Bradstreet RN, and Oliver Bradstreet.
Proceeded in death by his beloved wife Andrea Jacqueline Earl Johnson, infant son Michael Reed Johnson, and grandson Sean Hudd.
