Reed Lewis Smith (77) — our father, brother, and friend — returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on January 22, 2015. Born in Wanship, Utah on Dec. 28, 1937 to Owen Kenneth and Alda Lewis Smith, he spent his early years hunting, fishing, causing mischief with his brothers, and enjoying the great outdoors.
Reed married Ursula Leverkus, “the prettiest girl he’d ever seen” on March 20, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children: Kevin (RaeLynn) Smith, Gary (Marilyn) Smith, Christina (Donald) Booher, and Meresa (Rocky) Malin. Reed resided in Bountiful for the past 47 years.
Reed worked as an engineering designer, working for Hercules, Thiokol, Morton International, Autoliv, and ATK. He was known for his hard work, quiet nature, precision, and wry humor. He was a faithful life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in numerous callings. He had a big heart, with a special soft spot for his grandchildren and for his dogs.
Reed is survived by his wife; children; brother, V. Jay (LaWana) Smith; sister-in-law, Karen Smith; brother-in-law Ewald (Cathy) Leverkus; 21 grandchildren, and many extended family members. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Darrell Smith.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 28th at 11:00 am in the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 East Mueller Park Road (1800 S), Bountiful, with a viewing held for 1 hour (9:45-10:45 am) prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery. A viewing will also be held Tuesday, January 27th from 6-8 pm, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main Street, Bountiful.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks for all of the many condolences. We love and miss you, Reed! Thank you for your life and your goodness.
