1944 Reeve 2023

Reeve Maxwell Butler

June 25, 1944 — April 25, 2023

Centerville, UT

Our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother Reeve Maxwell Butler passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter at his side on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, after battling a neurocognitive disorder.  Reeve was born in the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT on June 25, 1944, to David Maxwell Butler and Barbara Jane Reeve.  He was the oldest of four children.

He loved to play sports like baseball, basketball, football, and bowling. He was especially good at swimming underwater. He played church basketball and was good at making long perimeter shots.  He and his friends used to play football at Smith Park where the trees, at the time, were small enough to jump over.

Reeve always loved singing.  As a youth he sang in the Mount Ogden Boys’ Chorus.  And he always sang in his ward(church) choir.

After graduating from Bountiful High School he attended Weber State College.  Eventually, he was called to serve in the British Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was here, while on his mission, that he learned to put his trust in the Lord.  He traveled home from his mission on the Queen Mary ship.  Later in life he served 2 more missions with his wife; Jacksonville Florida/Macon Georgia Mission and Utah Salt Lake City Mission.

Reeve served as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple. He served faithfully in many callings in the church, and always loved the opportunity to serve others through ministering as a home teacher.

He attended Brigham Young University where he met his sweet wife, Debbie.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4th, 1968.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, he held various jobs including working at Walker Bank, being a door to door salesman, driving a bus for UTA, working as a personnel analyst for the State of Utah and as a bailiff at the Farmington Courthouse.

After viewing an ad in the Salt Lake Tribune for court reporter training, he decided to sign up and give it a try.  After one year of studying, he moved his family of five to Colorado and attended the Mile High Court Reporting School.  He graduated from that school and got his first job as a court reporter in Fort Myers, FL.  After 9 years in Florida, he was able to move back to Utah and work for a Federal judge, court reporting for 21 more years.

Reeve is survived by his wife Deborah Mae Bird and their four children, Shamane (Dennis) Millard, Randy (Shannon), Shawn (Erica) and Darren (Kara). Siblings Jon, Alison (Reed) Barber, and Dave (Barb).  13 grandchildren   Connor, Max, Gibson, Alex, Brett, Colin, Cassidy, Cayden, Camrie, Paige, Lincoln, Jackson, and Hailey.

Preceded in death by his parents, Max and Barbara Butler.

A special thank you to Hospice of Ogden for their loving care of Reeve in his last days.
