Ret USAF Major David Lynn Humphrey

April 29, 1935 — January 12, 2016

Retired USAF Major David  Lynn Humphrey passed away at his home 12 January 2016 in his sleep. Born 29 April 1935 to Sarah Elizabeth (Branscomb) Humphrey and Clifford Warrick Humphrey of Olathe, Colorado.  He graduated from Olathe High School, attended the University of Colorado, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy (Class of 1959).  He married Alice "Ellaine" Standish 4 June 1959 in the Naval Academy Chapel, Annapolis, Maryland and elected to join the United States Air Force, working mostly in missile propulsion.  Upon Dave's retirement from the United States Air Force in 1979, he continued working as an aerospace engineer for Hercules, Inc. subsequently retiring from there as well.  An avid outdoorsman his entire life, Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing wherever the Air Force stationed him, but always preferred the mountains of western Colorado and the Uncompahgre Valley over anywhere else.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife Ellaine, is survived by their daughter Stephanie of Bountiful, Utah, sister Bette Jo (Humphrey) Felix of Montrose, Colorado, step-brothers Leonard D. Felix Jr. of Olathe Colorado and Carroll J. Felix of Montrose, Colorado, brother-in-law Myles Lathrop Standish, nephews Leslie Deven Felix, David Seth Felix both of Olathe, Colorado, Gary Lee Felix of Gilbert, Arizona, and their respective spouses and children.

Stephanie gratefully acknowledges the loving care and attention devoted to Dave by the entire staff of Community Nursing Services Homecare and Hospice especially Jocelyn our RN, and April our CNA (along with many others who treated him from time to time), as well as Right at Home of Ogden especially our homecare assistant Heather.  To the multitude of neighbors and friends who supported us in every way imaginable – you are true "angels".

We shall hold a "Celebration of Life" from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, 23 January 2016 at Russon Brothers of Bountiful, 295 North Main Street.  Please come share your memories and stories with us.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dave's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, the US Naval Academy, or a charity dear to your family in some way.
