Reta Brown Bringhurst

August 28, 1925 — April 10, 2024

Farmington, Utah

Our dear, sweet mother, Reta Burdene Brown Bringhurst, reunited with dad when she passed from this mortal existence on April 10, 2024.

Reta was born to Joseph and Vera Brown on August 28, 1925 in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada. She was the eldest of 6 children. Mom died peacefully in Farmington, Utah surrounded by family and friends and was greeted on the other side of the veil by Dad, Brent and her Savior. She was also looking forward to a reunion with her parents and siblings Myrlene, Ardell and Margie.

Mom stayed busy after High School attending LDS Business College and working at Fort Douglas and had many adventures with Myrlene and friends Ruth and Phyllis. They would enjoy hiking and skiing and many other outdoor activities.

After attending college, Mom met and married the love of her life, Robert Lamb Bringhurst and were soon married on May 9, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mom and Dad stayed in SLC for the next 12 years (with the exception of a brief stint when they lived in Los Angeles) where they began their family. Three sons, Bruce, Brent and Barry were all born during that time in their lives.

In 1959, Mom and Dad moved to Roy, Utah where there first daughter, Janet, and final son, Blaine, were born. They would live in that same house for the next 33 years where they raised their children and attended the Roy 3rd ward. Many lifelong friends and memories were made during those years. The family was sealed for time and all eternity on April 10, 1964, exactly 60 years before mom’s passing.

Mom held several jobs during the Roy years working first at the IRS before taking the job she most enjoyed as a special education tutor in the Weber County School District with an assignment at Municipal Elementary School. Teaching at the school that her youngest children attended was a blessing in their lives and created cherished moments.

In 1992, Mom and Dad found themselves to be empty nesters and quickly decided to move to Southern Utah to get out of the Northern Utah winters. They enjoyed the warm weather in St. George and had the opportunity to be close to Mom’s parents and several of her siblings. They returned to Northern Utah in 2004 while dad was battling health problems and resided together in Farmington, Utah until Dad passed in 2021.

Mom lived alone in her home at the Legacy House of Park Lane where she had many family and friends visit her until she passed earlier this week. The love and care she received at Legacy House was a true blessing in her life and Angie, Regan, Chezli, Donnette and others were a great source of comfort.

Mom certainly loved her children and loved to spend time with each of them. She was always full of kind words and encouragement and was a zealous supporter of the family unit. She preached to each of her children and their spouses to take good care of their kids up until the days preceding her passing. There are few things more important in life than to know that you are loved and mom never let any of her extended family doubt that they were loved for a single moment.

If you asked her, she had the best looking, most talented and successful children in the world, and although her judge of musical talent was suspect, she left us feeling loved and confident. She boasted about all of us, but it was us that were blessed to be able to call her Mom.

Reta was preceded in death by our beloved Father, Robert, and our wonderful brother, Brent. She is survived by Bruce (Sue), Barry (Dani), Janet (Mark) and Blaine (Cindy). She is also survived by 23 Grand Children and 25 Great-Grandchildren and siblings Boyd and Lloyd Brown.

Her warmth and compassion made Mom a joy to spend time with. Time will heal the sorrow we all feel from her passing, but the emptiness left by her departure will remain until we meet again. We Love you Mom and are so grateful for your example, love and life.
