Rhodes Farris

August 5, 1930 — April 2, 2013

Biography

Our loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend peacefully passed away on April 02, 2013. Rhodes was born August 05, 1930 in Lexington, Kentucky to Newell and Ollie Marsh Farris. He married the love of his life, J. Christine Reams on June 10, 1952 in the LDS Mesa Arizona Temple. Together they raised five children. Rhodes was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and held many callings throughout his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1954 in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan for 37 years. After retiring, they moved to Centerville, Utah in 1991.
Rhodes had special talents in woodcarving and carpentry, and a deep love of family history and any new computer technology. He loved to read; he memorized many poems– even with his lapsing memory, he still knew all the words to most hymns. Rhodes loved to make others smile; he was always making jokes, even in his last moments.
Rhodes is survived by his wife of 60 years, Christine, and his five children: Helen (Doug) Turner, Kimberly Schiefer, Tom (Lisa) Farris, Amy (Jeff) Johnson, and Beth (Scott) Crowley. He has 11 grandchildren, Shawn, Bryce, Clayton, Natalie, Andrew, Kaylie, Sarah, Michael, Emily, Ryan, Tim, and two great grandchildren Evelyn and Gideon. He is also survived by his brother, Bob (Sylvia) Farris.
