Richard returned to his heavenly home on a beautiful spring morning. He had been battling Alzheimer’s and become weaker struggling to interact with his loved ones. He was able to leave his earthly pains behind and join his two children, parents and sister on the other side. He will be greatly missed but we are relieved he is no longer suffering.
Richard Alan Tueller, son of Golden and Lucile Tueller, was born in Mesa AZ. He grew up with his four older sisters in Arizona. He loved Scouting, swimming and all outdoor adventures. Alan served an LDS mission for 2 years in London, England. He always loved the gospel and had a strong testimony. After returning home from his mission he attended BYU where he met his first wife. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and later studied for his Master’s degree in Pre-Hellenic History.
He married Marilyn Nell McCoy in September of 1968 in the Oakland Temple. They had two children together, Nathan Richard and Anne Michelle. They lived in several locations in California and Utah before Alan began working for Procter and Gamble and returned to Salt Lake City. He worked as a sales manager for the Western United States for over 20 years. He was a hard worker and earned many accolades for his company.
Later divorced, he married Kathleen Rappleye on July 3, 1978. Alan and Kathleen had two children that passed away and later adopted two more children, Rebekah Elise and Matthew Aaron. Alan’s family was his pride and joy. He loved to spend time with his children and loved to brag about their adventures to anyone willing to listen. He was kind and generous and loved to give gifts. He was a great gift giver and would often travel miles out of his way to locate the perfect gift.
He loved the outdoors and imparted his love of the outdoor in all his children. He was an active boy scout in his youth and inspired Nathan in scouting. One of his final trips was to visit Nathan in Alaska on his fishing boat. Alan could not have been more proud seeing his son operate a thriving business and be completely at home in the wilds of Alaska. He was an avid whitewater canoeist and imparted his love for rivers to his daughter Annie. He was a ranch hand in his youth and enjoyed spending time with his daughter Becky riding horses. He found connection with his youngest son Matt watching him ride dirt bikes and working with tools.
He loved the Ancient Jewish Culture. He learned to speak Hebrew and loved to share his knowledge with others. Alan loved cool cars and spent years fine tuning a 1978 convertible yellow MG B. Alan loved Dr. Pepper and German Chocolate cake. He felt that there was no situation that was not made better with either a slice of cake or a cold soda. He was the laundry king, no stain stood a chance with Alan behind the washer. His laundry folding skills could put any Gap Employee to shame. He said the folding boards employees use in Gap Stores were for “amateurs”. Alan could fix anything and had an extensive tool collection. He lived for the annual Tueller Family Football game at Thanksgiving and Tueller Family Easter Egg hunt.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, sister Nedra Heaton, brother in law, Don McCracken and two children, Esther Kathleen and Christian Alan. He is survived by his wife Kathleen R Tueller, his children, Nathan Tueller (Wendy Tueller), Annie Tueller Payne (Timothy Payne), Rebekah Lund (Travis Lund) Matthew Tueller and nine grandchildren.
