Richard Arthur Haynes

July 14, 1931 — January 29, 2022

Richard Arthur Haynes, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022.  He died comfortably in his home with his loving wife, Darlene, by his side.  Richard, also known as Dick, was born to Arthur and Ruth Haynes in Hemingford, Nebraska on July 14, 1931. Richard was the fourth of five children.

At seven years old Richard moved to Lander, Wyoming where he lived on a dairy farm.  He learned at a young age how to work hard and carried that with him throughout his life in whatever he put his mind to.  He loved Lander and told wonderful stories about his life there.  He and his family visited Lander often after his move to Layton, Utah.

Richard attended Kaysville Jr High and graduated from Davis High School in 1949.  He later studied auto mechanics at Weber State.

March 13th, 1950 Richard enlisted in the Navy and proudly served his Country for four years.  He attended boot camp in San Diego, California and then was stationed in Rhode Island for Naval training.  He toured the Mediterranean on the USS Warrington DD843, a Destroyer, and his service time coincided with the Korean War.

Richard married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Darlene Green Haynes, May 28th, 1954.  Their love and dedication to each other over the years is unsurpassed.  They made their home in Layton for over 40 years then moved to Kaysville in 2003.  Dick and Darlene share two children and as a family were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

In their early years as a married couple you would find the two of them ballroom dancing or driving their favorite yellow 1950’s Ford convertible.  As many people know, Dick had a thing for Fords.  When they started their family, they hung up their dancing shoes and followed their children and later their grandchildren to various sport, dance, and artistic adventures.

Richard spent 35 years working for Mountain Bell, now known as AT&T.  He started as a custodian, later a mechanic and ending his career in fleet management.  Richard proudly served as a volunteer fire fighter for Layton City for 25 years.

Richard was a member of the LDS Church.  Service was a big part of Richards’s life for many years.  From teaching Sunday school and scouts, as well as serving in the bishopric, he never wavered at the chance to serve his neighbors and was a strong follower of Jesus Christ.

Family was everything to “pops” as everyone so fondly call him.  His wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren love him dearly.  Full of wisdom, wit, and stability, he was the foundation and strength for all.

Richard is survived by his wife Darlene; children – Troy (Ana) Haynes, Kristine (Shaun Willey/Matthew High) High, grandchildren Ashley (Brady Exon) Willey, Cortney (Sammy) Willey, Shayna Willey, Anisha Willey, Jaden Willey, Aaliya Haynes, Karina Haynes, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Marie Leth.

He is preceded in death by his father Arthur Penn Haynes, his mother Ruth Powell Haynes and his brothers, Robert Leth, Harlan Leth and James Haynes.

The family wishes to thank caring neighbors, friends, church members, and medical professionals for all their kindness and support.
