Richard Barnes Smuin

Another American Hero has passed on. Richard Smuin, 87, of Kaysville, passed away at home on Saturday morning, January 7, 2012. Dick was born in Garfield, Utah on October 5, 1924 to Amy Barnes and Marion Dennis Smuin. He was raised by his grandmother, Ann Webb Barnes. He graduated from Davis High in 1943 and went right into the Army. He was wounded in Germany in December of 1944. He received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was married in the Salt Lake Temple to LaRue Thomson, of Kaysville, on March 26, 1948. They were together for 60 years until her passing in November 2008.He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1976. He was active in the LDS church and faithfully served in many callings. He served the community in the JCs. Dick is survived by his 5 children; Diane (Terry) Messerly, Darlene (Arden) Campbell, Stephen (Marilee) Smuin, Gail (Brent) Larson, and Russell (Penny) Smuin; 14 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren. He is especially proud of his two boys currently serving missions, grandson Spencer Smuin (Florida, Tallahassee) and great grandson Jonathan Black (Washington, Tacoma). The family would like to thank all those who cared for and cared about Richard at Liberty Dialysis, Thatcher Brook and the angels of AFI Hospice. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rock Chapel on 25 South 200 East, Kaysville. A viewing will be Wednesday, January 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 N Main Street, and from 9:00 to 9:45 prior to the funeral at the Rock Chapel. Interment at Kaysville City Cemetery.
