Dick moved many times as a child, living in Oregon, Idaho and Utah as his father looked for work during the Depression. Dick was active in civic and business organizations and was national president of the National Truck Equipment Association. Dicks passions were golf and tennis which he played competitively, being nationally ranked in tennis at the age of 65. Dick spent two years lovingly caring for his wife Pat until she passed away from cancer in 1997.
Dick loved to travel. Even after Pats death he continued to travel visiting Africa, China, Germany, Europe and Alaska.
