Richard Leroy Bōddy loving husband, father, and grandpa passed away peacefully with his family by his side into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, September 28, 2023 after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Rick, was born a fighter on October 29, 1952, weighing only 4lbs 10oz in Denver, Colorado to Ross and Dorothy Bōddy. After graduating from North High School, he began his unwavering commitment to service, honor, and duty. He first enlisted in the U.S. Marines (SSgt) graduating boot camp as Platoon Honor-man, then served in the U.S. Coast Guard where he was deployed to Operation Desert Storm. He completed his service in the U.S. Army (SSG) where he was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received the Commandants Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medals, Global War on Terrorism, and Humanitarian Service Ribbon.
He served his community for 35 years in law enforcement. He began as a police officer in California, then Colorado and Wyoming. Making Utah his home, he accepted a position with the West Valley City Police Dept. He held assignments in K-9, Motors, and SWAT retiring as a Master Detective. He was awarded the Police Star for Valor. He then joined the Utah Transit Police Authority with the rank of Captain. He also served as Interim Chief of Police. He was awarded the Chief's Medal of Excellence, and the TSA/DHS Security and Intelligence/Gold Standard Awards both recognized on a national level.
His priority was always the safety of those under his watch, his brothers and sisters, military, or law enforcement. He was dedicated and proud to serve his country and his community.
On December 2, 1995, Rick married Christina Bocanegra and together they created a beautiful family. He was an amazing hands-on dad, teaching the kids to never cut corners, work hard, and love each other, God, and country. He loved to camp, shoot, hunt, play games with his kids, or just sit on the deck with his bride. His greatest joy was to be around his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, they were his heart. Rick was intelligent, fun and quick-witted. He was a generous man even after his passing by giving the gift of sight by donating his corneas. His achievements as a warrior and patriot pale in comparison to simply being 'Dad, spouse, and friend'. He fiercely loved his family, and never missed the chance to say "I love you". We will cherish every memory. You are deeply missed and loved.
Rick leaves behind his loving wife Christina and companion of nearly 30 years. 5 children; Carlene (Latisha) Bōddy, Collin (Nicole) Bōddy, Mason (Laura) Bōddy, Jacob, and Lauren Bōddy. Several grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Siblings; Randy Bōddy, Laura Bōddy, Aleta Barkley, and Jeremy Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry Bōddy.
